A toast for bowel cancer research in memory of a local wine great
Created to honour the memory of local wine great Richard Gregory ‘Greg’ Trott, the 2005 Wirra Wirra ‘Gentlemen that’s Stumps’ Shiraz has been released to raise funds for the Flinders Medical Centre Foundation in support of bowel cancer research.
On 5 March 2005, as the Wirra Wirra Angelus Bell rang out 70 times to announce Greg’s passing a small parcel of McLaren Vale Shiraz grapes arrived at the winery for crushing.
From these grapes the ‘Gentlemen that’s Stumps’ wine was created and only 1000 1.5L magnums will ever be released.
Retailing at $60 a bottle and with all revenue from the wine going to
bowel cancer research at Flinders, more than $50,000 will be raised.
It is a real tribute to Greg’s generous character that this wine has taken shape, as many Wirra Wirra friends have donated their time, services and products to make the wine a successful fundraiser. These include: AMCOR, Averglass, Collotype Labels, Ramodin Capsulas SA, Tucker Creative and Yalumba.
As Greg would say “Never give misery an even break, nor bad wine a second sip. You must be serious about quality, dedicated to your task in life, especially winemaking, but this should all be fun.”
