Netball is Nothing but Pink

Netballers across SA embraced a pink theme on the weekend of Saturday 29th May to raise more than $20,000 for the FMC Foundation in support of vital breast cancer research and care.

Fourteen regional clubs and associations joined the efforts of ETSA Park and Netball SA and decorated their local courts in pink. Funds were raised through BBQs, raffles, pancake stands, fairy floss, face painting, selling pink merchandise, and the sale of Pink Gilbert netballs which were generously sponsored again in 2010 by Mutual Community.

South Australia’s national netball team, the Adelaide Thunderbirds, also participated in the weekend events, wearing pink sweat bands during their win against the Canterbury Tactix on Sunday 30th May.

Now in its second year, the Netball is Nothing but Pink initiative was created by former Australian netballers and cancer survivors Bronwyn Roberts and Monica Lahm.  The inaugural event in August 2009 raised $9,500.
