Cancer Research and Patient Care

Flinders Medical Centre wants to make the patient journey for those diagnosed with cancer as comfortable as possible by providing the very best facilities for patients and their families within the new Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer.

The Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer (FCIC) is a joint venture between the Flinders FoundationFlinders University and Flinders Medical Centre. Co-located with the hospital and university, the FCIC is a hub of research excellence and compassionate care for all affected by cancer.

Treating the majority of cancer patients in the southern regions of South Australia as well as parts of the Northern Territory, Flinders Medical Centre practitioners are well-established professionals known in Australia and overseas for their cutting-edge work.

Current initiatives include:

  • Clinical research utilising the fluorescence microscope which is part of the Cell Screen SA (CeSSA) project.
  • Enhanced models of care to support the development of a “survivorship and psychological support program” following treatment.
  • A newly designed reception/ground floor area within the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer.
  • New chairs in the Infusion Suite, for the comfort of families and carers.
